My first exposure to emulation of a more authentic Win9x experience was PCem and it does OK. It was fairly easy to set up and understand. However, some pitfalls were noticeable and I heard 86Box does better. However, the hardware selection from PCem didn't exist in 86Box and the setup was more daunting. I just settled on subpar PCem. I think I'll give 86Box another try thanks to this video. I don't care about hardware of the era emulating upgrades. I do want maxed out hardware emulation so I can play games I cannot play on modern hardware using x64 and Windows NT kernel. 3DFX and Pentium I/II it is with SoundBlaster. 128MB RAM and 128GB total storage capacity.

It's a sad state of EVERYTHING. Farmers have to hack their own John Deere tractors to fix them. Buy a Mercedes and you have features locked out from a subscription service. Can't repair your newer mac book or other electronics. Can't diagnose or fix a lot of things in newer vehicles because its locked behind expensive computer diagnostic tools that could be dealer only. The powers that be don't want you to own anything. The world is better now than we had it 30 years ago, but in some ways we didn't realize how good we had it.

Wow, its in my steam library still. Playing it right now since you said this, what you are sayin will effect people with the disk version. We saw this with the halo 2 windows xp edition, and pretty much anything with windows live. It effects more than those games, but mainly those games.

I couldn't even install a Windows 98 (or XP) VM to play an old game (Zero Zone). Imagine how much of an idiot i felt by just clicking on this

This is very complex. I don't know if there is a more straight forward way of emulating Windows games, but I'd be all in for it if it's doable.

When drilling out rivets, use a bigger bit. You don't push it all the way through. It'll cut the flange of the soft aluminum rivet.

the comparison at the beginning is offensive. emulation and real hardware are both valid. they can never truly replace each other even though they're often interchangable but I appreciate the appreciation of emulators

While the fully legal angle on dead drm issues is kind of a waste of time in my opinion (since many games are easily fixed with piracy), I understand it's the only perspective we as buyers can fight companies with, even if piracy is the best way to go about pretty much any game, even some online ones (bfbc2 pirate servers etc.)

as for naming conventione floppy was typically and b drives c drive hdd cd/dvd/bdrom d drivecd/dvd/bd drive 2 f-j floppies galore however driver support for floppies stopped around xp I think...

In fairness I pirated tons of games in this era. There were always cracks around their DRM. What stopped me from pirating is Steam, providing convenience and unified drm login, and the need for continuous support because games are no longer complete on launch(either because of DLC, improvement patches, or straight up broken on launch)....

In 2003, my roommate in college had an LCD, and I remember specifically seeing horrific ghosting, that he, weirdly, was unable to see. But he wasn't much of a gamer. I was a late LCD adopter because of how bad the ghosting on his LCD monitor is. I didn't realize you could actually find a good LCD back then.

I take autism to a new level and do literal terminal emulation of old terminals through MAME and use those as my main terminal emulator. It's so pointless but I love it anyway.

For 15 years I've been saying lootboxes and online only and so on are bad and other gamers have said "oh ya I know bro" as they're entering their credit card numbers.... no one can act like they weren't warned.

Piracy is morally justified

The best part is 99.5% of DRM is cracked either before or just after the official full release of a game and goes up on file sharing websites usually before it's even hit store shelves.

17:31 This was around the time that MS switched to the NT kernel for consumer editions of Windows (namely XP home) and games *couldn't* access the hardware directly anymore (software APIs for various things existed before this, but DOS/9x/ME didn't lock user programs out of the hardware, so there was no way to enforce that the APIs were used, and it was always at least a bit faster to go directly to the hardware, so it was hard for APIs to gain traction). Once userspace was locked out of the hardware, forward compatibility was much better (as mentioned, extending basically to the present day). A fair amount of stuff from the XP era will run unmodified today without even needing a VM. Also, as far as the CPU specifically goes, the Pentium IV faceplanted so hard that Intel basically had to go back to the Pentium III for their next generation of CPUs. So the CPUs in service when consumer adoption of 64-bit really got going were fairly close derivatives of the Pentium III (and the transition wasn't very noticeable to users anyways, for the reasons mentioned above), so exact emulation of a Pentium III isn't very important.

My first computer was a C64, and eventually got an old wise 286, and eventually a Compaq 3/25zs that had a Cyrix 486 clip on upgrade that did around 40Mhz that ran windows 3.1 but my first Pentium based PC was a pentium 133 with a 430 VX chipset and 32MB of Ram, and an S3 Virge DX. Started with Windows 95, the HDD went poof and I was stuck with DOS for a while. Eventually getting someone to install windows 98 onto it. A few upgrades over the years and it ended up having a 200Mhz MMX, 64MB Ram, a Voodoo 3 2000.

I got half way through your video and had to stop because most of what you are saying is completely a bald-faced lie and not even true. No-CD cracks exist to make at least 99% of these games work that you claim won't run at all. They're not even sketchy either. There's at least 15 reputable sites for getting no-cd cracks from. You don't even directly mention those sites or state that this is an option and that's the lie part when you claim certain games won't run at all when they do run just fine. I was considering recommending this video to some friends of mine and sharing it but when you got to the point where you are COMPLETELY LYING ON PURPOPSE I decided nope. You should of mentioned how no-cd cracks are a viable option, allow us to use the games correctly (even on the original systems they were designed for) and mention or at least link to reputable no-cd crack websites like gamecopyworld and megagames. I actually hope your video fails because of what you're trying to do here.
